Dementia Friendly Choirs

During Springtime 2019, I worked with Durham County Council and Alzheimer's Society Dementia Friendly Communities, devising and delivering a pilot programme of  fourteen workshops in a range of settings across seven venues throughout East Durham. Building upon hugely positive feedback, we established the East Durham Dementia Friendly Choir - which comprises of two singing groups who meet weekly in Seaham and Blackhall on alternate Thursdays. This was follwed six months later by the launch of  'Forget Me Notes' a Dementia-Friendly choir based at Ushaw College, a venue and space very close to my heart and family history.  Since we established, the choir has performed over 10 times - including at Newcastle Arena and were involved in the performance and development of Skimstone Arts 'A Silent Thread'. The Dementia Friendly choirs I lead are open, inclusive, supportive spaces in which people are encouraged to explore music without fear of judgement or criticism or failure. With an emphasis on  wellbeing, they are open to anyone who has Dementia, memory issues, neurological conditions and their family, friends, carers or anyone who wishes to be part of a positive, supportive Dementia Freindly singing.
